Earth Day is the largest and most celebrated environmental event worldwide. Even forty six years after the first Earth Day, it is still a challenge before us to make the people aware about the motive behind celebrating this great day. To raise the awareness among students and to give a tribute to the Mother Earth a plethora of activities was organized by Eco Club & Work Exp. Club in BCM School, Sector 32-A. The school campus buzzed with different activities like Clay Modeling, Poem Recitation, Collage Making, Poster Making, Model Making and Mask Making. The students prepared eye- catching modelsand masks of earth. Through their thought provoking creative work students showcased the alarming condition of our “Mother Earth”. They also recited beautiful poems and expressed their concern for our ailing planet. All the students participated in these activities with full exuberance. The best entries were chosen from all classes and winners were awarded with certificates.
In an earnest attempt to lend a green touch to the school environment and sensitize the students about their role in conserving it, Eco Club of BCM School, Chandigarh Road celebrated Van Mahotsav with great fervour on July 14.The celebration was an ideal opportunity to instil the value of social responsibility in the students towards safeguarding trees and forests. The focus of the celebration was towards forming a personal connect between the students and trees through a process of experience, reflection and creation, carried out through various activities. Members of Eco Club brought tree saplings and exchanged among themselves and pledged to take care of them. Children of class III mesmerized the judges with their beautiful and thought provoking poems on the importance of trees in a Poem Recitation competition.Class IV and V students participated in an Elocution competition on the topic “Bring alive the spirit to plants and save trees”. Students showcased their concern towards Mother Nature and the consequences of ruthless cutting of trees were also illustrated. The events helped to bring awareness about the green cover around us. It also helped in strengthening the bond between plants and humans. Students got to learn a lot and will always cherish the memories of this important occasion.
Trees have been serving humanity since time immemorial. The very existence of man would not have been possible without trees and other green plants. If a tree is saved even at a cost of one’s head, it’s worth it said the noted activist Amrita Devi Bishnoi. This the reason why India has so many festivals related to trees. One of them is the “Van Mahotsav” Day or the “Forest Day” which is celebrated in the month of July. It is very much important to make our young generation conscious about theharmful effects of cutting trees and spoiling our environment. In this regard different activities were conducted. Class III had a Poem Recitation Competition on the topic “Van Mahotsav” in hindi whereas Class IV and V participated in Hindi ‘Declamation Contest’ on the topic “ Modernisation Versus Environment”. The students participated enthusiastically in these activities.
